Carles Azcón presents”Collserola, our green lung”
On Thursday the 4th, we inaugurated “Collserola, Our Green Lung”, an exhibition by Carles Azcón that filled the gallery to capacity. The exhibition is part of the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of Sala Rusiñol.
The Councillor for Culture of the Sant Cugat City Council, Núria Escamilla, joined the opening and addressed a few words to the gallery, the exhibition, and the artist. Bernat Picornell, Councillor for Commerce, also took part in the event and, echoing Escamilla’s remarks, highlighted the important role that Sala Rusiñol plays in the cultural life of the city.

The exhibition was introduced by writer and television presenter Asha Miró, who shared an inspiring reflection on the artist’s creative universe and his close connection with the landscapes of Collserola. Her presentation emphasized the sensitivity with which Carles Azcón observes nature and transforms it into painting, celebrating the value of the natural environment that surrounds us.

With “Collserola, Our Green Lung,” Azcón invites visitors to rediscover a natural space that forms an essential part of Sant Cugat’s identity. Through expressive paintings rich in light and vibrant colour, the artist portrays the forests, paths, and wildlife of the natural park, as well as iconic landmarks such as the Pi d’en Xandri, one of the exhibition’s central subjects.
For this exhibition, Carles Azcón also collaborated with Sant Cugat photographer Ivan Villarejo, whose wildlife photographs inspired several of the paintings on display. In addition, Asha Miró contributed her literary sensibility by giving titles to a number of the works, creating an engaging dialogue between painting and literature.
The exhibition is also an invitation to contemplate nature with a slower, more mindful perspective, highlighting a landscape that is an integral part of everyday life for the people of Sant Cugat. The paintings convey respect, admiration, and affection for an environment that the artist places at the very heart of his work.
“Collserola, Our Green Lung” will be on view at Sala Rusiñol until 5 May.
