Presentation of the book “Baules. Cartes generacionals” by David Pagès i Cassú
On Thursday, March 14, we had the joy of presenting the book “Baules. Cartes generacionales” by his author, David Pagès i Cassú. The psychologist and humanist, M.José Valiente, was in charge of conducting the event.
For almost three years the author asked descendants and scholars of reference men and women to write two letters, one to the ancestor or to the corresponding person studied; the other, depending on each case, to descendants, young people or scholars of another generation.
With the development of the book, this initial idea took on diverse forms, which were adapted and which have enriched it, betting on the epistolary genre, which has a recognized prestige and a long tradition in the literary world.
The volume aims to visualize 150 years of the history of Catalonia and the Catalan Countries.
When asked about the objectives of the book, the author explained to us:
The volume has four main objectives. The first, a clearly didactic, informative, pedagogical will: to make known personalities from all the Catalan Countries/Catalan-speaking countries, who belong to different professional fields, and to value their figure and work.
The second objective is to transmit confidence, hope and positivity towards the future of the language, culture and country.
The third objective seeks to channel and make visible the complicities, connections, ties… that exist between the different Catalan-speaking peoples, starting with its backbone: language, one of the themes that the book focuses on.
And the fourth. The book also wants to contribute to making visible women whose work and determination was very important for equal rights and for the social recognition that women have achieved in recent decades. They are people who had to face many difficulties and misunderstandings, but who sowed seeds that, even today, continue to bear good fruit: Caterina Albert, Maria Àngels Anglada, Conxita Badia, Mari Pepa Colomer, Dolors Condom, Aina Moll, Simona Gay , Carmen Karr, María Elena Maseras, Aina Muelle, Montserrat Pino, Teresa Rovira, María Rúbies…
