Josep Domènech i Sánchez explores emotion and artistic maturity in “My Autumn”

Sala Rusiñol once again welcomed one of the gallery’s most beloved and longstanding artists, Josep Domènech i Sánchez, with the opening of his new exhibition, “My Autumn”, presented as part of Catalonia Art Week..
The opening event was especially moving and featured introductions by Carles Guivernau and Carlota Contreras, close friends of the artist, who shared heartfelt reflections on his artistic journey, his unique vision of art, and the warmth and generosity that have always defined him.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening came when the artist’s daughters surprised their father with a heartfelt tribute. Their emotional words deeply moved both Josep Domènech and the audience, turning the opening into a celebration filled with sensitivity, cherished memories, and well-deserved recognition.

In “My Autumn”, the artist reflects on the passage of time and the maturity that comes with this stage of life. As he explains, the exhibition’s title refers to entering this new chapter, in which emotions and feelings continue to be the guiding thread throughout his work. The female figure, a constant presence in his artistic universe, becomes the ultimate expression of sensitivity and human creativity.
His painting is also distinguished by a highly personal technique. Josep Domènech works exclusively with varnishes and cloths, completely dispensing with brushes. This distinctive approach gives his paintings a unique texture, depth, and unmistakable identity.
With a long and distinguished career supported by numerous prestigious painting awards, his works are part of outstanding collections, including those of the FC Barcelona Museum and the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, among many others.
The exhibition “My Autumn” will be on view at Sala Rusiñol until January 5, offering visitors a wonderful opportunity to discover a mature, intimate, and deeply human body of work.
