CARME MAGEM starts the 2022-23 season

The female figure is the protagonist in “Face on”, the latest collection by the artist that she is presenting at the Sala Rusiñol.

We start the 2022-2023 Season with an artist with a long career but who is exhibiting for the first time in our art gallery: Carme Magem.

C. Magem began his artistic training early, first at the Artistic Circle of Manresa and later continued in Sabadell and at the Sant Cugat del Vallès Municipal School of Art. She completed university nursing studies in the gynecological specialty and has been practicing her profession as a midwife since 1981.

Her career has always been divided between the health field of care for women and the world of art. He has exhibited in galleries in Barcelona, Vitoria, Lleida, Granollers, Terrassa, Sabadell, Zaragoza, Seville, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, among others. She also participates in prestigious international fairs such as St-Art in Strasburg, Salón des Antiquaries in Nancy, Lille Art Fair, Abu Dhabi Art Fair, Affordable Art fair in Singapore, London, NY, ect.

In this exhibition, which he has titled “Face on”, she presents an interesting collection where the technique of oil painting and collage are the protagonists in the faces of iconic characters from the world of culture, art, cinema, social struggle… as well as a whole series of female faces of anonymous women charged with sensitivity.

As she herself has written: “Going face to face is an expression that we could translate as “telling the truth”, “hiding nothing”, “letting one’s true intentions be seen”… And this is what I wanted to do in this exhibition; paint and show what I like to do the most: paint human faces, especially women.

In each face a whole universe is hidden. We can find an ephemeral gesture, a life trajectory, an ideology, the representation of a world as complex as cinema… a whole universe of feelings, emotions, experiences.

Crossing our gaze with that of the person looking at us in each painting, many of us will find questions, other answers, memories, desires, certainties and a whole range of possibilities that do not even occur to me.

Perhaps that is why I paint faces, because it makes me feel deeply identified with what I do and what I feel. Basically, my wish is that the observer can also feel in intimate communication with the faces that I paint”.

The opening of this exhibition is next Thursday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the same Sala Rusiñol. The exhibition will remain open until October 4. Here you can see the entire collection.
