Va ser l’any 1992 quan en Manel Doblas va realitzar a la Sala Rusiñol la seva primera exposició individual. Des d’aleshores, aquest pintor no ha deixat de ser ell mateix, però li hem vist un canvi matisat en els seus interessos…
L’any 2010 —la seva darrera exposició a casa nostra— les vies dels trens i els mateixos trens ocupaven gran part de la seva obra, juntament amb els gratacels. Ara han guanyat pes els interiors dels bars, sense gent, però amb molta llum… Per què?
En Josep Mª Cadena no desaprofita l’avinentesa per tirar de la pintura amb vista a “llegir” la vida real que ens envolta. «Aquesta és una exposició premonitòria del canvi que es produirà al país. Tu expliques —deia tot adreçant-se directament a l’artista— que als bars no hi ha ningú, que les cases estan tancades…, però també expliques que hi ha vies que ens menen vers al futur».
De la ressenya crítica d’en Cadena: «Amb les primeres llums, les ombres que arriben amb la progressiva claror del matí, el voluntari oblit dels esclatants migdies, Manel Doblas ens descriu el pas del temps; d’un temps que ell, en el fons, voldria que anés tan ràpid com el tren de la seva imaginació plàstica»..
En Manel Doblas ens explica que la seva pintura recull vivències… Els rails són camins de la vida: les vies són com una metàfora, però inspirada en llocs reals. Però aquesta exposició no és només el resultat del pinzell. Ens revela que ell ha estat un temps apartat de la pintura i que l’ha aprofitat per a pensar. Aquesta exposició és el resultat de pintar i pensar.
Què hi ha amb això dels bars?, li pregunten. —«Jo hi he anat molt als bars: m’atrauen. He voltat molt pels pobles i, quan hi arribo a primera hora i a fora fa molt fred, entro al bar i faig un cafè. Són locals bonics; ara n’hi ha menys.
