«—¿La Hostería del Laurel? —En ella estáis, caballero. —¿Está en casa el hostelero? —Estáis hablando con él…» (“Don Juan Tenorio”)… En realitat no ens trobem a l’Hostería del Laurel, sinó a la Sala Rusiñol. Però succeeix que aquesta vegada ha vingut en Juan A. Tenorio amb la seva exposició “Anatomia humana”… Així, amb traça tan amena, el presentà Mr. Cadena…
El perfil ràpid “4 anotacions d’en…” (en aquest cas, “d’en Tenorio”) palesa detalls inèdits. L’artista fou preguntat per Un rècord en la teva vida?: «Guanyar un premi amb 20 minuts de treball. Va ser al Poble Espanyol, de Barcelona. Em varen cridar de casa per anar a reparar una peça d’una màquina. Vaig haver de deixar el concurs. El vaig deixar tal com estava i li vaig demanar al meu amic Mateo que ho anés a recollir. Al dia següent… resultava que m’havien atorgat el 2n Premi: em digueren que era una obra molt espontània.
Les arrels d’en Tenorio queden insinuades ja a l’aparador de la Sala Rusiñol. La seva família, la seva muller —Toni— i el seu pare l’han ajudat a preparar-lo. Allí hi veiem una reproducció en metall del Pont de Brooklyn. «. Sóc fill de manyà: conec l’ofici, el meu pare m’ensenyà a treballar el ram del ferro. Aquests orígens poden explicar, en certa manera, les formes estructurals de la meva pintura (els ponts metàl·lics…)». En Josep Mª Cadena comentà que «aquest pont —realitzat per la seva família— connecta amb les seves arrels: arrels de les quals surt la saba per a què existeixi l’arbre, i l’arbre són les seves pintures».
Quin és l’estil d’en Tenorio? L’artista respon: «Figuratiu realista. Amb molt de concepte que hi afegeix el collage. Imatges, visions. El “mentor” intercalat en l’escena és l’esperit». En Cadena afegí: «Què hi ha en aquesta obra? En ella trobem la mobilitat de la ciutat. Creiem que les ciutats són unes formes estàtiques. Però, no!, van variant. En Tenorio ho explica mitjançant els collages: combina la ciutat amb les coses que ell ha recollit de llocs, moments i circumstàncies molt diversos, que el motiven en el moment de pintar, tot creant una estreta relació entre allò que ell construeix i allò que ell posa dins de l’obra».
Juan A. Tenorio: «Vaig a contar-vos una història… Fa poc vaig exposar a Màlaga. Un client em digué: —És curiós; per tractar-se d’un pintor de Barcelona no se li nota gens l’accent. Aleshores li vaig dir: —És veritat que sóc un pintor de Barcelona, però jo vaig néixer a Utrera, Sevilla. —Ahhh!, “acabáramos”, així estàs a la teva terra, em digué… Avui sóc a casa meva; sóc a la Sala Rusiñol. És la tercera vegada que m’acull. Sóc amb els meus amics; sou part del meu món. Em sento molt a gust amb la família Cabanas i el seu equip. A part d’això, sóc a Barcelona, ciutat que estimo i admiro; ciutat plena d’arquitectura i d’elements que a mi em serveixen per a elaborar el meu treball». Tenorio acabà amb un sentit agraïment envers la seva esposa, Toni: «El seu ajut és molt!».
