Benet Sarsanedas! Home afable, home de pagès, enamorat de la natura, el rostre del qual traspua bonhomia; pintor veterà molt estimat a la Sala. Tot això ho reflecteix la seva pintura (ens ha portat el millor de la seva obra) i l’Ignasi Cabanas es desfà en elogis i paraules d’afecte. Et recomano —si no ho has fet encara— d’anar a la Sala Rusiñol i, només entrar, fiteu la vista en la paret ocre del fons… Quin impacte!
La col·lecció exposada ara mateix a la Sala, ja des de la primera ullada, causa impacte i atrau la vista de manera irresistible. En efecte, pels colors poderosos, la textura no menys notable i el moviment dels paisatges hom té la sensació d’haver-se endinsat en la naturalesa que expressa plenitud de vida i puresa.
En Josep Mª Cadena subscriu tot el que acaba de dir l’Ignasi. Cadena —com no podia ser d’altra manera— es declara antic coneixedor d’aquest pintor tan de casa nostra. Ja des d’aquells anys en què es reunien en el llegendari bar “La Punyalada”! (que ja ha passat a millor vida). Fent palès la impressió que tots tenim, en Cadena diu que veient aquesta mostra un sent que «passa l’aire… En Benet és pintor de bosc».
En Sarsanedas és una ànima del país, nat a Rupit. «Coneix molt bé la natura i se l’estima per les coses que passen en ella, per la mobilitat —continua dient en Cadena—. Veient els seus quadres, hom té la sensació que les fulles fan fressa, que l’herba es mou amb el pas de l’aire… Són quadres actius: la mà d’en Benet fixa un moment, però són moments que es van succeint. Un detall, un exemple: al cel —que és més curt que la terra— hi veiem els núvols que s’alcen…».
El parlament d’en Benet Sarsanedas —home discret i de poques paraules— comença i acaba amb el seu agraïment pel nostre interès per la seva obra. En Cabanas, però, hàbilment, fent-li preguntes, li va arrencant explicacions entranyables. —De vell antuvi, eres fuster. Com vares arribar a la pintura? —No sóc el primer fuster que acaba pintant! Vaig veure que l’art és allò que més dignifica l’home. Per això vull fer art. La pintura no és fàcil, és com els escacs. Va ser un repte! M’agrada el que em permet elevar-me…». —Ets un “pagès il·lustrat”, li acaba engaltant l’Ignasi Cabanas.
El tema dels escacs: no és casual! Tot ve del següent: un dia, en Josep Mª Cadena visità l’amic Benet a casa seva i se’l va trobar davant d’un tauler d’escacs. Veient-ho, li va preguntar: —Ha de venir algú? —No, és que jugo per telèfon!, li va respondre. Les diverses preguntes dels espectadors i amics encara li van anar estirant més paraules i explicacions…: els pintors de referència (molts, sobretot detalls particulars d’en Goya, Velázquez…); el nombre dels quadres pintats (molts, perquè ja suma 50 anys pintant); el temps que triga en pintar un quadre (no se sap, depèn; un quadre s’acaba quan algú se l’endú!).
