• T’has trobat amb la Bellesa (així, amb Majúscula)?: Sí. Tot el que es refereix a la sensibilitat i que causa emoció: potser una criatura, potser una pintura…
• El teu mestre?: Tolts els pintors que he conegut i he vist: els bons i els menys bons. De tots n’he après. Podria dir noms, però me’n descuidaria d’algun…
• T’identifiques amb alguna escola de pintura?: Sóc hereu de la tradició de la pintura figurativa. Però els “ismes” (cubisme, expressionisme…) m’han influït. Em qualifiquen d’expressionista contingut. Jo comparteixo la següent dita: “Allò que no és tradició és plagi”. En Ramon Gaya deia que la pintura no s’inventa, sinó es continua.
• Un pintor a qui admires?: No en diré cap de proper… però Rembrandt… Dir-ne un em sembla una malifeta: és una injustícia, ja n’hi ha molts…
• El teu primer record del món de l’art?: Una imatge bonica: un pintor que pintava al pont de Besalú en un dia nevat. Jo tindria 12 o 13 anys. Aquest primer impacte que va ser important.
• La teva primera alegria en l’art?: Una: jo tenia 13 anys, i al capellà del meu poble (Mn. Bastons) li vaig voler regalar un dibuix, però em va dir: —El que es regala no té valor. I me’l va comprar.
• La teva primera exposició?: A Vic, a la galeria Ausart. Tenia trenta, l’any ’72.
• El teu estil?: Post impressionista. Són etiquetes. Ramon Gaya renegava dels estils; el pintor ha de tenir personalitat. Precisament perquè hi ha barreja d’estils, cal ressaltar la personalitat.
