Exhibition-Tribute to the artist Casademont -le vieux- (1923-2023)
Opening on Thursday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m. The artist SERGI BARNILS will present the exhibition.
Casademont -le vieux- was closely linked to Sant Cugat and especially to the Rusiñol Gallery. He lived in our city for more than twenty years and from this period stands out a pictorial period dominated by geometric and cubist forms and, in the Rusiñol Gallery, he presented several individual exhibitions. We want to highlight the fact that the last exhibition he presented in life was in our space, in 2006. With that exhibition he wanted to pay tribute to his great friend, the art critic Francesc Galí (1918-2006).
His career in exhibitions was very important both in terms of individual and collective ones. He exhibited in the main art galleries in our country and abroad. Internationally, it did so in Europe: Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, Düsseldorf, Vienna, Basel, Zurich… in America: Washington, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco… in Asia: Tokyo and Taiwan.
We can also see his works in museums, among others, in the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, in the Louvre Museum -Gavinet des Étampes- Paris, in the Dalí Museum in Florida, in the National Museum of Graz, in the Museum-Picture Gallery of the Montserrat Monastery… Just as numerous is the bibliography and filmography around his person and work.
Casademont is considered one of the outstanding artists of the 20th century, which is why, now, in 2023, coinciding with the centenary of his birth, we wanted to recover the last collection he created. It is an exhibition in which to discover his characteristic landscapes of the Girona regions of orderly compositions and resolved with soft colors and slightly blurred profiles. This exhibition includes work from the artist’s mature period, of great technical quality, as it was selected to publish a book where, at the same time, two arts came together: the visual arts of Casademont -le vieux- (1923-2007) and the poetry of Montserrat Vayreda (1924-2006).
Both, Casademont -le vieux- and Montserrat Vayreda, were distinguished with the Cross of Sant Jordi. The first, in 1994 for the pedagogical dissemination of art and the international dissemination of the Empordà and contemporary Catalan Art. The second, in 1999, for his poetic work.
