Inauguration of Torrecilla (July 2nd 2010)
“Visions of Nature“ is the title of the exhibition Torrecilla presents at the Rusiñol Gallery. An outburst of natural light and colour fills the walls of the room. From the entrance, the tapestry of poppies made with the catalogues of the exhibition, forestalls an idea of what we are going to find once inside the gallery.
The Director of the Gallery, Ignasi Cabanas, welcomes Torrecilla, an artist presenting his work at the Rusiñol Gallery for the first time. He also wants to remind us of the passing away, last June 25th, of Josep Sala, internationally renowned artist. He was very much attached to our gallery: we had commemorated with him our 22nd anniversary. Josep Sala also felt a great love for landscapes, especially those of the Tarragona scenery.
As usual, the critic commentator was Josep Mª Cadena, who, very skilfully, built a magnificent profile of the artist. «Torrecilla explains us, through the grass of the verge, through the constant fight of Nature to defend and keep alive the small things, the strength of what is supposed to be the main reason to live». He also pointed out the artist’s long artistic trajectory, and concluded by saying: «I think the painter has positively evolved since I met what I thought it was a very promising start of his work».
Once the initial speeches concluded, it is the turn of the artist. Torrecilla’s moving words of gratitude to those present left more than clear his sensitivity, when he explained that his works spoke for him, since they represent the fruit of his deepest feelings before the landscape.
When the time for questions from the audience arrived, many were those who wanted to question the artists, while commending his work. We discovered that these works have a great technical elaboration, thanks to which it is possible, the special use of colour and glazes characterizing his paintings.
