Inauguration of Mangot (June 11th 2010)
The Rusiñol Gallery is on its way to commemorate its 25th Anniversary. These days we do it by presenting Montserrat MANGOT’s exhibition “Barcelona brilla” (“Barcelona glitters”). Its strength is reflected in the vivacity of its colours: «Mangot’s painting is full of colour inside out; that is, she brings the colour which she projects upon people and those things she is more interested in» (from the commentary by Josep Mª Cadena).
Fans? The inauguration registered a very good attendance. Monsterrat Mangot is an artist convinced and in love with her work, with a style of her own. Her explanations exude strength. The people perceive this and, consequently, they respond… We would not know how to explain it any better than with this picture: five attendants, all of them men, carefully listening to the artist.
When welcoming Montserrat Mangot, Ignasi Cabanas took the opportunity to refer to an important and recent event: a few days before, in Barcelona, Josep Mª Cadena had received the homage of the Gremio (Guild) of Art Galleries of Catalonia, in fair recognition of his veteran task in favour of Art and Culture.
For the second time, Montserrat Mangot exhibits in the Rusiñol Gallery. Ignasi Cabanas acknowledged her presence, as well as that of the many followers of the artist. A presentation so “synthetic” and precise of the artist had never been made before: «Montserrat, you have adapted yourself to the Rusiñol Gallery, and the Rusiñol Gallery has adapted itself to you».
Josep Mª Cadena: «The title of the exhibition exactly responds to its contents: “Barcelona Brilla” (“Barcelona Glitters”). Here, there are a set of paintings Mangot has painted with her knowledge of the city and her love of certain areas of Barcelona; not in a city closed in itself, but in a city that opens to many other possibilities. The city of Barcelona with its buildings, its monuments… but, most of all, with people who are active, under an ever changing sky and looking for other skies, other realities».
