Opening “Once upon a place…” by Eduardo Query
Last Thursday 1st October we inaugurated what is the first solo exhibition in Catalonia by the Cadiz artist Eduardo Query.
Eduardo graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Malaga in 2014 and is a Higher Technician in Engraving and Printing Techniques from the School of Art of Cadiz (2010).
He has been awarded Production and Artist-in-Residence Grants, such as the Grant at the ‘La Rectoría’ Art Centre in San Pere de Vilamajor (2015), the Alafara Workshops in Salamanca (2014) and the Rodríguez-Acosta Foundation in Granada (2013).
His work has been shown in several contemporary art fairs, including Art Madrid (2022), JustMad (Madrid, 2021), Art Montpellier (2023), JustLX (Lisbon, May, 2018), Art/Marbella (2018) and in different editions of the FLECHA fair held in Madrid, Bilbao and Mallorca between 2017 and 2024.
His work is an invitation to the viewer to inhabit a space visually and to reflect on the different aspects of the image, both plastically and aesthetically.
The opening was a success in terms of attendance. An audience who were discovering the work of this artist for the first time were pleasantly surprised by his special use of collage. Eduardo’s intervention captivated the audience.
The commentary on the work was given by the painter José Manuel Aznar, who addressed these words to the audience:
“Eduardo Query is one of those artists who offer a somewhat peculiar point of view when he comes to scrutinizing the essence of pictorial art and collage.
This very personal vision, used in composing and creating his work, takes as its working method a studied and laborious mental exercise of synthesis.
From this always correct inner vision, the artist shows us and accompanies us throughout a schematic and careful selection of the elements that will be the ones that will integrate the whole of his work.
Basically, he lets himself be seduced by collage as an appropriate language to offer us a work of a high aesthetic concept, and uses space as a meeting point where harmony, subtlety and sensitivity converge in a perfect balance.
He studied and careful richness of textures, brightness and opacities, selected chromatisms in their ranges of secondary, tertiary, etc., wisely combine the minimum necessary rigor with an overflowing sweetness.
Query’s work should be framed in an economized minimalism typical of the most diaphanous plasticist versions. However, he invites the viewer to dive into his work in search of hints, details, subtleties… who knows!
The wider plans, calm and full of presences -as they demand the prominence that every stain, as such, deserves-, in combination with the smaller plans, in which the nerve for life seems to flourish, end up imposing the author’s personal imprint or stamp.
This elaborate compositional method, with elements that are generous in their ductility, is accompanied by graphics and notes of wet paint. Its slender, delicate and grateful presence, which we notice immediately, transports us to that other inner world, perhaps already forgotten, in which the innocence of the gesture speaks to us of a naivety even latent, adapted, of course, to the passage of time and the new artistic current.
Query’s work is diaphanous, sincere, flees from speculations and too academicist postulates, which allows him to appear as one of the referents at the forefront of the current pictorial-artistic panorama in the collage modality.
With Eduardo’s plastic poetry, the spectator’s gaze is totally satisfied. With his works he transports us to close, friendly, familiar worlds, not exempt from an onirism in which purity and a contained enthusiasm reign that is almost familiar to us.
The virtue of his work lies in the essence! And although this, in the complex process of elaboration, tends to lead us through tortuous paths where doubt may make its presence felt, Eduardo will not give up his interest in distilling this essence, giving it the importance it deserves and offering us, with all the love, dedication and wisdom with which Query, Eduardo’s friend, does it.
Eduardo’s work is to be fully embraced!!”
As usual in our openings, attendees have the opportunity to get an original work of the artist that we present. Here we leave you the moment of the delivery to the lucky winner:
We encourage you to visit the exhibition in person. You can also do it virtually here
