Opening “Line and color” by Maite Farreres
After a few days of rest, we have started the new course of exhibitions. Thursday, September 5, was the date on which we inaugurated the first of the exhibitions of the 2024-2025 season.
Maite Farreres is the artist selected for this beginning of the course. Ignasi Cabanas, director of the Rusiñol Room, began by thanking the large audience that accompanied us for their attendance. He explained that Maite Farreres is an artist who presents her work, for the first time, in our gallery. The artist, from Lleida, had never exhibited in Sant Cugat.
Next, he gave way to fellow artist Gemma Riba Roca, who was in charge of commenting on the work. During her speech, she highlighted that Maite is an artist with great sensitivity and intuition. He explained that painting expresses itself with aesthetic rules and that, at the same time, it seeks beauty and that although the muse exists, art is carried within.
Aesthetics are expressed in values and beauty is the magic of art and cannot be decided. Maite Farreres does not worry about looking for aesthetic values. His work is quick to execute, has a very spontaneous rhythm, strength and great personality. It has its own seal because it is not necessary to see the signature to recognize its work.
Next it was the artist’s turn, who explained that she paints directly with Indian ink on the paper, without a prior drawing. “I have the perspective in my head. First I draw with ink and I do three layers with watercolor. I work with the dry and wet watercolor technique. My line is fast but the work is slow to execute”.
