Inauguration of Tenorio (8th April 2016)

The Rusiñol Gallery, full of art lovers, welcomes the painter Juan Tenorio one more time. Although he frequently visits us and attends the inaugurations of some of his artist friends, he hadn’t inaugurated personally from four years ago…

When one enters the Rusiñol Gallery, one doesn’t need to ask who is exhibiting: obviously it is Mr. Tenorio! We see there some spectacular urban landscapes, of cities perfectly recognizable, with a great strength of color and completed with the source of the collage technique. The author goes beyond realism by using this technique. In his paintings we find feelings, emotions…

“Urban sentimental chronicle” is the title of this exhibition. The painter explains the reason: «I do not look for the technique —like perspective, color…, I have tested all of these—. I try to put emotion, feelings, to awaken emotions through memories and experiences. On the whole, this paintwork of mine is an “imaginary”.

Amidst an extraordinary ambient, the artist expressed his gratitude to his friends and to the Rusiñol Gallery for this such a great welcome. At the same time, he dedicated the exhibition to his wife. He said: «If this exhibition had been a book, then in the last page I would had written: “For Tony”».

What about the use of collage? According to the author, the collage is not used in order to create structures, but for giving messages. What about the colors? The painter is asked: —«In front of such different scenarios, while using the same tonality, how do you get to capture the light of every place with so few elements?». He explains that the colors he uses are ochre-yellow, ultramarine and red. These are very close to basic colors. From there, he creates a more or less harmonized palette. Then it is easy to introduce lights, intensify colors… «I do not see life though rose colored glasses, but I see it in colors, also in grey!», he asserts.
