Today we are presenting to you a Polish artist, Piotr Perski. This is his first individual exhibition at the Rusiñol Gallery. Nevertheless, you could see his works in our collective Christmas’ exhibition. Now, Piotr is ending our current art season
Piotr is living in Barcelona for fifteen years. In fact, he is finishing his doctorate in “Bellas Artes”. For this reason, Mr. José Mª Barragán —professor in this Faculty— is joining to us. Mr. Barragán is leading Piotr’s doctoral thesis. So, nobody better than Mr. Barragan to speak about the artist’s work.
José Mª Barragán is speaking: «I like very much the title of this exhibition —“Looks”— because it makes us to think that the gaze concerns the experience of seeing, so that is, of paying attention. “Looks” (Gazes) means to look, to feel the experience and to leave the witness in one place».
Mr. Barragán continues: «Piotr needs to experience with nature. There are some artists who work at the studio, with the help of the photography. But Piotr needs the experience of what he is seeing: clouds, mountains, buildings… In his pictures we discover his gaze, his experience and —what is more important— your experiences. When you look at his pictures you have the opportunity of recuperating your own experience. Behind the beauty, you have to experience what is suggested to you.
Finally, time for the artist! He thanks the Gallery for its welcoming. Immediately, some questions of the attendees. «There are some pictures made above a superficies which are not canvas, but rare woods, very old woods. Is that premeditated?». Piotr answers: «I have many stored woods, some of them are more than two-thousand years old. These are woods that I prepare and keep, up to the opportunity for recuperating them. There are also some woods used by me as palette and later become pictures».
