L’Ignasi Cabanas. Visiblement afectat, ens anuncia que al migdia —tot just feia unes sis hores— la seva tieta Lola havia traspassat. «Tot i que estem de dol, hem volgut mantenir la convocatòria de la inauguració, més encara tenint en compte l’amistad amb en Xavier Sanagustín i el compromís amb tots vosaltres». La tieta Lola ha estat present a la vida de la Sala Rusiñol des dels seus inicis. Darrerament, malgrat que no podia assistir als vernissatges, mai deixava de preguntar quants quadres s’havien venut…
Josep Mª Cadena: «Tots nosaltres sentim el dol de la família Cabanas. Destaco aquest esperit de sacrifici en el dia d’inauguració en la situació de dol; ha passat així! Estem amb els nostres amics i estem en la defensa de l’art, i estem amb el prestigi dels pintors i de les galeries d’art, justament en aquests moments de crisi… La majoria ja coneixen l’obra de Sanagustín. És un home d’admosferes, un home que capta el nivell de la natura i que la vol transmetre als altres».
Josep Mª Cadena: «La natura té tendència, té manera d’explicar els nostres sentiments. Això en Sanagustín ho capta: va pel mon amb els seus extris de pintor, amb la seva voluntat de trobar coses… i les troba! Es difícil: un es pot cansar mentres camina, un es pot distreure amb moltíssimes coses, un pot tenir la sensació que… Sanagustín no es perd! (…). Aquesta és una exposició alegre, d’una persona que creu en les coses tal com les troba i que sap afegir els seus sentiments. La força de la seva voluntat també va creixent: aquests són els 25 anys d’haver exposat».
En Xavier Sanagustín, després dels agraiments, es disposà a respondre les preguntes. —Paisatges naturals o inventats? —Pinto al natural, pero també pinto a l’estudi. Això no vol dir que el del natural surti millor que el de l’estudi. L’important és estar en contacte amb la natura. És claríssim que existeixen el paissatges que pinto… però només els veu el pintor.
